Overview

Magnetite is our homage to the sound of magnetic tape recorders. Simply dial in the desired amount of saturation and warmth using the recording gain knob and Magnetite will add the analog tape sonics that you're looking for to your mixes.
Huge drums, distorted loops, saturated vocals, you name it - let Magnetite breathe new life into your tracks. We recommend using Magnetite as the first insert of your chain, just as if your signals were recorded to tape. You can, of course, put it into different spots if you're going for creative effects.

Features

Authentic sound

We put a lot of thought and work into emulating all the sonic aspects associated with analog tape: Class A recording and playback amplifiers, tape response and saturation, NAB pre- and de-emphasis EQs, the sonic effect of different tape speeds and bias levels, hiss and hum - it's all there. We also added an adjustable wow and flutter feature that emulates frequency modulation (FM) due to motor speed fluctuations.

SSE2 optimized code

DSP operations are pipe-lined using the SSE2 instruction set. This ensures highest possible performance operation despite very complex computations.

Auto-adjusted oversampling for maximum audio transparency

Aliasing artifacts are efficiently attenuated using a low latency linear phase Dolph-Chebyshev poly-phase design. The oversampling is auto adjusted to your session‘s sample rate to save valuable CPU power while offering the most transparent sound possible.

HighDPI / Retina support

All our plug-Ins support high pixel density on Mac OSX and Windows to bring you the most enjoyable user experience on high DPI displays. Please refer to your manual to find whether your DAW is HighDPI capable if you‘re working on Windows.

Everything but the tape-shed... by Noah (2025-10-09)

"For those of us who have agonized over tape as a necessary medium, Magnetite presents much of what we love, and excludes or controls for the parts professionals would just as soon forget; no need to align or clean heads... The harmonic distortion and compression characteristics remain useful in numerous ways. (Any chance we could get our old tapes baked in the next version?)"

Excellent by Pablo González Rojas (2025-10-09)

"I use it a lot! I put Magnetite on every group buss and on my master buss. From black to red...every type of tape has his colour. I love it!"

IF YOU NEED TAPE DISTORTION THIS IS THE ONE! by Cássio Zambotto (2025-10-08)

"I mastered a record for a grammy winning engineer that required heavy tape intermodulation distortion (not mild saturation), Magnetite did it better than any of the other 9 tape plugins I have. It keeps the low end big even when smashing it hard. Grab it and test for yourself!"

That extra “something” by Jason B. (2025-10-09)

"Adds that extra something to give your track, or mix, a more pleasing sound and feel. I also appreciate the adjustability."

Very nice saturation by Cosmin (2025-10-08)

"I love the way it saturates without sounding fake. You have many options to use, and you can put some wobblyness onto instruments. I don't like the tape hiss button though - I would've loved to have some options to put more of it in there, or to have some imperfections like dropouts or HF muffling. I don't use those as much but I love them as options to explore. I love the way the saturation has a tonal balance and sounds so genuine, really imparts a fullness to any instrument or mix and can really be used to emulate analog recording. Also, you can experiment with its spot in the signal chain if you're into spooky producer stuff. "
